Brookwood Hills rambles through 40 acres of tree-lined streets touched with flowing ivy. Established in 1922, the private, urban enclave showcases classic architecture. Families appreciate the recreational amenities, others the proximity to nightlife. In addition to a private swim and tennis club, residents enjoy the Clear Creek Nature Preserve along the eastern boundary.

Located north of Midtown and on the southwestern edge of Buckhead, Brookwood Hills extends from the east side of Peachtree Road at Interstate 85 to Brighton Rd. at Piedmont Hospital. Amtrak real service is available at Brookwood Station.

Access the neighborhood through the stone pillar entrance on Peachtree Road. One of the top 20 Atlanta neighborhoods, Brookwood Hills is comprised of 370 homes and 3250 residents. It is near plenty of employment and boasts a median household income of over $85,000. Only one-third of the homes are owner occupied.

The highly sought-after neighborhood showcases large homes on lots of under a half acre. Homes are closer to the street and some other neighborhoods and they are set off with beautiful beds and lush landscaping under the canopy of the century-old oak trees.

Plenty of architectural styles provide interest in the community. Victorian, Tutor, Colonial, Georgie and, and Mediterranean stand out. There are also some low-rise condo buildings in Brookwood Hills. Prices for single-family homes range from $700,000 to approximately $2 million. The median value Is $650,000.

Streets winding through the hilly terrain include Brighton Road, Huntington, Camden, Montclair, Northwood, Woodcrest, Wakefield, and Palisades, among others.

 

Neighborhood Amenities

Membership in the Brookwood Hills Community Club allows access to popular facilities. The clubhouse includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and swimming pavilion. The community puts up an excellent swim team and hosts swim meets. There is also tennis courts and a 6-acre park.

The work of the association’s Beautification and Livability Committee is apparent. The neighborhood is equipped with sidewalks, encouraging walking and jogging as well as bike riding. Golf courses are within 10 minutes of Brookwood Hills.

 

Neighborhood History

A granite marker at the intersection of Peachtree Road and Palisades Road marks the intersection of Creek Indian trails. In 1864, the Battle of Peachtree Creek began at the intersection of what is now Peachtree and Brighton roads. By the 1880s, Joseph Thompson built a country estate called Brookwood; it was razed to make way for the interchange at Interstate 85. In 1912, B.F. Burdett and E.F. Chambliss developed Brookwood Hills subdivision. It flourished after World War I, incorporating the work of prominent Atlanta architects.

Although part of the neighborhood is registered as the Brookwood Hills Historic District, plenty of developers would love to take advantage of the in-town location. Replacing older shops, Brookwood Place is one recent development featuring 111 condominiums, 26 townhomes, and retail shops. Similarly, some of the beautiful homes designed by Neel Reid were sacrificed to make way for the Downtown Connector for Interstates 75 and 85.

 

Neighborhood Schools

Families are served by Buckhead schools at E. Rivers Elementary, Sutton Middle, and North Atlanta High schools as well as charter schools and private schools in the area. There are also major universities within a short distance.
